Easy Ways to Exercise

Most people seem to firmly believe that exercise means an hour on the tread mill or two hours lifting weights at the gym. Yet for most busy Americans, devoting so much time every day to physical activity is nearly impossible.

Unfortunately, this leads to many people rationalizing their sedentary lifestyles when in fact there are still plenty of things they can do to stay physically healthy.

This is because exercise is not strictly defined as a separate activity that must take out a good chunk of your day. Rather, physical exercise is as much a lifestyle as it is a singular exercise. Chances are very good that you can tweak just a few small parts of your day and end up living an exponentially healthier way of life.

List of Easy Ways to Exercise

The first change you can make is perhaps the simplest; take the stairs. This generally has no bearing on your schedule because it often takes much longer to wait for an elevator than merely make the climb yourself.

This habit will do wonders for you. Not only is it cardio, but it is excellent for the muscle tone on your legs. If you are looking at twenty or so flights, then climb halfway or as much as is comfortable and surprise your friends or coworkers by meeting them halfway.

The next one is slightly more drastic. If you want an easy way to burn calories and stay healthy, then choose physical activities when looking for something fun to do. If your options are tennis or a movie, pick tennis. If the weather is nice, go for a hike or a jog. Not only will you be healthier physically, but you will also find that you are less stressed and overall happier as an individual.

The third way is to link a particular activity to a particular exercise. There are varying levels of this, but the simplest is to flex your abs each time you walk through a doorway. You can do calf raises while you are doing a standing activity such as washing the dishes, or flex your glutes every time you pass a stoplight in your car.

Some individuals have reportedly set up a pull-up bar in their basement and performed a set of pull-ups every time they had to enter it. Next thing they knew, they could do 15!

If you are lucky enough to have a dog, take him/her for a long walk whenever you can. Not only will you and your pet be getting necessary exercise, but the activity will seem a million times less painful and rote as you will have constant entertainment.

Finally, if you are determined to exercise, you will find a way to do it. Place a treadmill (or other exercise machine) in your TV room, for example. Suddenly, instead of sitting on the couch for hours you will spend at least part of the time working on your cardio. It will hardly seem like a change after a week and the results will be absolutely tremendous.
