Your body is extremely adept at eliminating toxins and other foreign substances on its own, but it will nonetheless occasionally misfire or allow certain kinds to accumulate. Detoxifying regularly can help prevent various diseases, both chronic and acute.
In a perfect world, our bodies would perform their required functions flawlessly and without any assistance. Unfortunately, as our diet worsens and our exercise level grinds to a halt, the body begins to need more and more assistance with some fairly basis tasks.
The detoxifying process is one such task, and while unless you spend most of your day around lethal foreign substances you aren’t necessarily in immediate danger, prolonged exposure to toxins can have a distinctly harmful effect on your biology. Luckily, there are several easy ways to aid your body in processing and eliminating these toxins.
1 The Magic of Lemons
While lemons have come to hold a place in the popular lexicon as a symbol for something that is deeply flawed or inferior, few natural substances possess the detoxifying abilities of these yellow citrus gems. Combining a hearty amount of lemon juice with a glass of warm water can actually stimulate your liver’s toxin-eliminating abilities and flush out your intestines.
Lemons are also very high in Vitamin C, a potent antioxidant that both fights disease and free-radicals. Use lemon juice to flavor your food when you cook for an easy way to ensure that you aren’t building up too many internal toxins.
2 Take a Bath
Here’s a simple solution that will both relax and cleanse you (in more than one way). Collect several common herbs, throw them into the bathtub, and soak for about 30 minutes. Peppermint, eucalyptus, fennel, wintergreen, and Epsom salts all have the ability to draw toxins out of your body. When combined, the process is as simple as relaxing in a warm bathtub filled with them. You’ll also emerge feeling less stressed.
3 Breathe Easy
Believe it or not, only about three tenths of toxins are expelled through sweat, urine, and defecation. The other seventy percent is believed to be shed through respiration. This means that breathing properly is an integral part of your body’s natural detox process. Practicing yoga or meditating regularly can do wonders for your breathing. Otherwise, learn proper breathing technique from a reputable source. Chances are that your breaths are far too short and directed improperly.
4 Consume Chlorophyll
Chlorophyll, the substance that gives plants their green pigment, is remarkably similar in structure to that of the human red blood cell. Various medical studies have indicated that consumption of chlorophyll limits your body’s ability to store certain toxins, and consuming it can actually help eliminate existing levels of such contaminants.
There are plenty of chlorophyll supplements or extracts on the market, but you can’t beat getting it from its most plentiful source which is leafy greens. Spinach has an incredibly high concentration of the substance, as does pretty much any green vegetable. Even green olives are an excellent source. Vary your consumption to get a wide variety of supplementary nutrients and vitamins.
