If you’re like most people, you find it hard to begin and maintain an exercise routine. That’s largely because you get bored along the way or you find it too demanding. Exercise doesn’t have to feel like a chore. In fact, it can be a lot of fun.
Below are some activities you can do to make “exercise” something to look forward to.
Like dancing, exercise is simply a matter of moving your body. There are no special rules to follow. You can do what feels right to you, because frankly only you know what your body can do and what your limitations are. If you attempt a movement that feels foreign or is a little too painful, switch to something more doable.
That being said, obviously there are times when you are really trying to chisel your body or tone up quickly. It’s at those times when you will probably need to follow a more structured routine that targets certain body parts and may require a little more focus.
There are a plethora of exercise videos out there when you want a specific routine to follow to get specific results. As always, before beginning any exercise routine, consult your doctor.
Have Fun Exercising?
Exercise can also be fun when you’re doing activities that you love. You just have to find a way to move in the process. Engaging with others is also a way to make it more enjoyable. Here are some cool ways to “get it in” and have a blast:
Workout Buddy – Joining a gym or an aerobics class and working out with a friend is a great option that will not only make the two of you accountable to sticking to your goals, but also make it more fun because you’re not doing it alone.
Bike Riding – You’ll have so much fun riding and enjoying the weather with the wind in your hair that before you know it, you’ve burned a bunch of calories.
Swimming/Water Aerobics – Swimming is just plain fun, but all that splashing around is working muscles you didn’t know you had. Water aerobics classes are just as much fun, but in a more structured way. The water asks like your resistance and tones and firms your body while you enjoy the water.
Commercial Break Challenge – While watching TV, you can challenge yourself or someone else to see how many, say, pushups you can do during commercial breaks. Guys should love this while watching their favorite sports.
Dance Class – A dance class is a great way to get moving and have fun, and who wouldn’t kill for a dancer’s body?
Beachcombing – If you love the beauty and serenity of the beach, spend some time walking along the shore hunting for seashells or other treasures. Walking on sand is an excellent way to tone your legs and entire body.
Making Love – You probably don’t think of it as exercise when you’re having all that fun between the sheets, but you really are burning lots of calories.
Shoot Some Hoops – If you’re not in shape enough for a full-fledged basketball game, just try shooting hoops. The mild workout and fresh air will do you a lot of good.
Canoeing/Pedal Boating – The repetitive action of rowing or pedaling and using your own body strength to propel yourself is a lot like riding a bicycle with the buoyancy of the water. Bring someone along for the ride and have a ball.
