Spinach – The Who, What & Where!

Spinach should be known as a super food. Why should we lust for this food more than Popeye looking for an energy surge? Well ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you. The benefits offered by spinach far outweigh that of a lot of food. Could it really be as simple as to eat more and more of this stuff to keep healthy? We decided it was time to investigate further..

If you want a nutrient dense food, you got it right here in spinach. It contains very few calories but at the same time providing the body with a serious amount of minerals and vitamins. The list of minerals and vitamins that you get from this one food is alone is incredibly impressive. Take a peek –

For those of you that think it is too expensive to eat healthily, you should probably know that this is one of the most readily available foods in the world. This is literally abundant pretty much everywhere in the whole world and because of that fact; this is a relatively inexpensive food to buy.

Let’s just add a few more things to the mix. Just think of all the ways you can eat spinach – you can eat it cold and raw in salads. You can eat it warm and cooked on pizza. You can have it dry and crispy with your oriental takeout and you can have it wet and wrapped around raw seafood to make sushi. There is literally nothing you can’t do to this food to ruin it!

Guess what guys – we still aren’t done!

Thus super food can help to save your heart! The plentiful supplies of vitamins A and C help to fight back against many diseases. They are technically antioxidants which can help to battle against cancer, and help to keep cholesterol levels healthy. This means that your heart is given a bit of a break and also ensures that you live for longer. The magnesium helps to keep your blood pumping nicely and your blood pressure low.

What if we were to tell you that spinach can help to keep your gastrointestinal health up to scratch too? The vitamin C and beta-carotene present in the spinach plants help your colon to work as it should be and on top of that, the folate stops any cells from mutating.

So, now you’re impressed with the whole idea of spinach. Now how do you make something that a cartoon character once ate look appetizing on a plate? What do you do with the spinach that’s easy for a first timer to make and appreciate?
How about you try a little a super simple and super easy to make sautéed spinach? You need just four ingredients:

  • ¼ cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 ½ teaspoons garlic salt
  • 10 ounces spinach leaves, washed
  • 1 tablespoon virgin olive oil (extra-virgin if you have it!

You literally throw the oil into a pan and add the spinach after the oil is heated. Chuck in the garlic salt after 5 minutes or so, then right before you serve it, chuck a bit of the parmesan cheese on to give it a real flavor kick. You can easily serve this with frozen chicken Kiev’s if you want to jazz up an old favorite, chuck some strips of leftover steak, chicken or beef in, or even serve it with salmon that you have cooked over the BBQ in the summer. It’s easy, simple and very, very good for you!
